1995-2018: A Celebrated 23 Years in Law Enforcement
The senator dedicated 23 wonderful years to serving as a customs officer, rising to the rank of captain before transitioning to a rewarding role as a school counselor. His extensive knowledge of customs laws and policies has truly enriched his journey.

2007-2015: I Am the Infantry! Follow Me!
Senator San Nicolas proudly served as an infantry soldier in the Army National Guard, exemplifying courage and commitment throughout his journey. His dedication to duty led him to be called to active duty in 2009, where he bravely deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. With a heart full of pride for his service, he is honored to be recognized as a 100% Service-Disabled Veteran.
His experiences in the military have shaped his character and deepened his appreciation for teamwork, sacrifice, and community. Senator San Nicolas often reflects on the words of Mark Twain: “It's not the size of the dog in the fight; it's the size of the fight in the dog.” This quote serves as a powerful reminder that true strength comes from within and that determination can overcome any obstacle.
2011-Present
Since 2011, Senator San Nicolas has embraced the rewarding role of a non-denominational ordained minister. Officiating wedding ceremonies has become a heartfelt way for him to give back to the community, and he feels truly honored to unite couples on their special day. Offering prayers for their happiness is a privilege he cherishes deeply.
He believes that a marriage built on genuine commitment and shared vows lays the foundation for a fulfilling and joyful life together. As John Legend beautifully sings, “All of me loves all of you.” It’s this kind of love that Senator San Nicolas aims to celebrate and nurture within the community, creating bonds that last a lifetime. 🌺

Senator San Nicolas and his wonderful wife, Ellene Asiaten, are proud parents of four amazing children who are all actively contributing to their community. Together, they share a deep love for their country and their beautiful island. Their eldest is a school guidance counselor, dedicated to supporting and inspiring students. Their eldest son proudly serves as a Marine, while their youngest daughter has taken on the role of an Army officer. Last but certainly not least, their youngest son is currently serving as an active-duty member of the United States Air Force.
For them, family truly is everything! 💖

About Senator San Nicolas
Senator San Nicolas is proud to have been raised in the vibrant village of Hagat, where he was born to Lourdes Diaz San Nicolas and Jose S. San Nicolas. With a mother who dedicated herself to teaching at J. P. Torres Elementary School and a father who served as the Commissioner (Mayor) of Hagat, his early life was filled with strong community values. Although he faced the heartbreak of losing his mother just three days before Christmas in 1979 at the young age of four, he found strength and support from his loving father and the warm-hearted elders of Hagat.
Growing up in a religious household, thanks to his father's role as a Techa, Senator San Nicolas embraced church life, serving as an altar boy from 1985 to 1993. His faith and community helped shape the person he is today.
Senator San Nicolas's educational journey is equally inspiring. He attended a variety of schools, including Mt. Carmel School, Agat Elementary School, Cottonwood Elementary School in Bremerton, Washington, Piti Middle School, and he proudly graduated from Oceanview High School in 1993. He continued his education at the University of Guam, earning his bachelor's degree in history in 2003 while working as a customs officer, and later obtained a master’s degree in counseling in 2011 after returning from military service. He also holds a black belt from the Aikido School of Self-Defense, showcasing his dedication to personal growth and discipline!
Work Experience
In 1995, Senator San Nicolas began his career at the Guam Customs Agency, where he quickly advanced to the rank of captain. In 2018, he embraced a new chapter in life as a high school guidance counselor at Southern High School, where he inspired and supported students. His commitment to service doesn’t stop there; in 2007, he joined the Guam Army National Guard as an infantryman. He proudly deployed in 2009 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and today he stands as a service-connected disabled veteran.
In a delightful turn of events, Senator San Nicolas was invited to play Santa Claus for the Navy Exchange in December 2017, where his joyful spirit truly shined! Since then, he has brought cheer to countless schools, religious organizations, the USO, and various charitable events across the island as the beloved Santa. Furthermore, he launched his own business at the start of the pandemic in 2020, motivated by a strong desire to help others navigate through tough times.
In 2022, he took a brave step into public service by running for office and celebrating a successful campaign to become a senator! Since then, he has enthusiastically introduced and supported a variety of positive measures that uplift our community—focusing on education, enhancing public safety, advancing anti-crime legislation, improving healthcare, strengthening the economy, honoring our veterans, and fostering the arts. His passion for making a difference truly shines through in everything he does!
Family Life
He is the heart of a loving family, married to the wonderful Ellene Asiaten San Nicolas, and together they are blessed with four beautiful children. He finds joy in simple pleasures like gardening, swimming, firing up the grill for a BBQ, jamming to some old-school music, and sharing precious moments with friends and family. It’s clear that family is at the center of his world, and he cherishes every moment spent with them!
Continued Service to the People
In 2025, he was honored to be elected as the Treasurer of the Democratic Party of Guam, a role that allows him to continue his passionate commitment to serving the incredible people of Guam. His heart and dedication to uplifting the community remain strong, inspiring those around him to join in the journey of service and compassion! 🌟
